FREEBIE: Your Parenting Book List

Here is your FREE book list for YOU and your home! The list includes three categories to help create a thriving flow for you and your family. You will see books for your parenting environment, your child’s brain, and books with spiritual integration. I will add a list below for an explanation of each category and how these may provide more rest in your life.

Parenting Environment

Remember 2020? Besides the obvious, the impact it had on children will be researched for years to come. But if there is one thing we can all agree on, the environment our children are in, impact their behaviors. This means, though we could place all our efforts in parenting modules or scripts, if a child is still in a stressful or overstimulating environment, those scripts may not quite work as efficiently. These books emphasize the simpler space or environment provided to the child actually reduces stress and increase the capacity for a child to develop in appropriate rates. I will quote Kim John Payne from Simplicity Parenting as a teaser, “…If cumulative stress is causing these kids to be like wartime kids, then it’s like an undeclared war on childhood. I had to figure out how to get these kids out of the warzone so they could start recovering. The only way I could do it at the time was to cumulatively reduce the stress.”

How does this bring rest? The simpler the environment you offer, the less busy of a schedule you live.

Your Child’s Brain

The Brain! This is my favorite topic to geek out on.

When you are able to understand your child’s emotional needs and mental states by understanding how the brain develops, you can create various positive outcomes. This includes outcomes such as: reflective listening, understanding one another, kindly communicating needs and desires, developing plans with negotiation, sacrifice, and compromise.

How does this bring rest? Understanding the brain, how it works, and it’s different roles will get you ahead of your children’s tantrums and even help ease your own brain. So when you do have a disciplining opportunity, you can approach it with an educated and understanding mindset, with realistic expectations.

Spiritual Integration

The rod, the sin-talks, the scripture, the theology…How we interpret the Bible impacts how we discipline and it can get overwhelming at times. This category cannot be forgotten! It is significant to hide truths into children hearts, but much like our own spiritual walks, the approaches can be so different. These books help with getting to the root of why we discipline, scripture calling parents up to their roles to do more than quote scripture, and additionally offer practical tools you can bring into your home.

How does this bring rest? Understanding how to cultivate a space for your children to talk about their fears/doubts will provide more opportunities to learn about who Jesus is organically.

Which do I pick?

Look at these three categories and rate from 1-10 on how you are doing in each. Based on the lower score, start there. Then choose based on which book you resonate with more. And just like that, we put those parenting anxieties at ease!
